APRIL DESIGN CHALLENGE....Pretty Little Butterfly

Hello everyone!

This month has started with a crazy bang with my computer deciding it would rather live a life of a rock rather than a laptop! With that said I apologize for how late the challenge is this month....so without further ado here is this months challenge. So this month I was inspired by all the butterflies that I have seen in my garden this spring and found this wonderful butterfly to inspire you. So I ask that you use this butterfly somewhere in your design and then upload an image of your project to the Fripperies and butterflies face book page at https://www.facebook.com/fripperiesandbutterflies?ref=hl . Then on May 1st I will announce the winner of the challenge here and on my facebook page.
The winner will get a $15 shopping spree with Gecko Galz and a prize from another one of my favorite amazing vendors. Good luck everyone!

Now to announce the winner of the March challenge, I am pleased to say it is ANNE MILLS with here stunning card. Thanks to everyone who took part.

Good luck to everyone and I cannot wait to see what you design this month!

FAB FABRIC CARDS.......step into the fairy Garden

At The Gecko Galz Retreat I did a class that taught everyone how to color fabric in fun exciting ways. I love discovering new ways to create amazing backgrounds for my cards and I will admit these ideas were a blast to do!

PAINTING WITH DISTRESS INKS

For this card you take your 4" x 6" piece of cotton and using distress inks in Fadden Jeans, Crushed Olive and Vintage photo you will run it down the length of the fabric in stripes using your blending tool. Then with a wet paint brush add water and let the colors bleed together.
also used on this car: Gecko Galz image, Martha Stewart tinsil yarn, sentiment stamp by Canvas corp, Viva pearl pen in white, stickles in clear.

CRAYOLA BACKGROUND

For this card I used Metalic Crayons by crayola and with a hand held grater I got at the dollar store I grated gree, orange and gold onto my 4" x 6" cotton piece. Take a piece of parchment paper lay down your fabric with the grated crayon on it then add a piece of wax paper and another piece of parchment paper. Using an iron on a cotton setting run over piece allowing the crayons to melt into the fabric. Peel away the wax paper and there you have it.
other tools you will need: Images from Gecko Galz, stickles in Clear, Tulle ribbon

PAINTING WITH GLIMMER MIST

Now for this card I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to color my background fabric. I used Bronze and brown, and graphite colors and layered them on spraying from a close distance to get the intense rust looking areas. This gives a great vintage look to your fabric.
Other Tools Used: Gecko Galz images, stamp by Canvas Corp, May Arts Ribbon, Viva Pearl Pen in copper, Stickles in clear.

ALCOHOL INKS

Though Alcohol Inks are normally for nonporous surfaces I have discovered if you use the blending solution or rubbing Alcohol you can actually dye fabric in a cool way. I layered on the following colors, Denium, Mermaid and eggplant then squeezed on my blending solution letting the colors blend together. It ends up being very dreamy looking it works even better on silk!
other tools used: Gecko Galz images, Hero Arts stamp, stickles in clear, cream tulle ribbon, viva pearl pen in cream.

Have fun creating with these awesome background ideas and please if you have any background ideas you would like to share comment on this entry I love learning new techniques!

TAG TUESDAY.......ribbons and lace

So I thought it might be a bit fun to offer up a new tag design each Tuesday for my followers and this week I have decided to use amazing products from Canvas Corp to do my little tag!

SUPPLIES YOU NEED
Shipping size tag
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Verdigris & Bronze
Canvas Corp lace & Kraft paper
pearl button
blue and white bakers twine by Bo Bunny
mini wooden ruler from Hobby Lobby
paper leaves from Hobby Lobby
vintage lace trim
Black Soot ink by Distress Inks
Torn fabric ribbon
Red line tape
glossy accents

begin by lightly misting your tag with your glimmer mist and let dry!
Cut out piece of lace paper to size of your tag and tear top and then ink edges with your black ink.
on back of print paper add red line tape to bottom and two sides leaving 1" at top free of tape. Fold over non taped area to form a flap then adhere the piece to top of tag (this will form a pocket). With red line tape tape down flap. Take your button and pull blue and white twine through holes and adhere to center of flap with Glossy accents.
Spray you mini ruler with your glimmer mist and let dry. Next take your leaves and using your ink lightly ink the edges.
layer on your piece of lace, your mini ruler and leaves to bottom of tag as shown. Finish by pulling strip of fabric through hole as your ribbon tie.
Here is a great little tip, hit the second hand shops to find old evening and prom dresses to cut into strips for the tattered ribbon.
